Postmenopausal Depression

Changes in your hormones during menopause can impact your mental health as well as your physical health. You may experience feelings of anxiety, stress or even depression.

The four common symptoms:

    • Hot flashes
    • Poor sleep
    • Genitourinary symptoms/sexual dysfunction 
    • Mood changes 

These four were most seen among postmenopausal women are referred to as postmenopausal syndrome.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that nearly 40% of postmenopausal women may also have depressive symptoms requiring treatment.

Women entering menopause experience a decrease in hormones, which may make them prone to psychological changes such as depression anxiety, irritability, lack of concentration, and panic or fear.

 

Ketamine infusion therapy can be beneficial and produce long-lasting symptom relief from depression and anxiety related to postmenopausal depression. As with other mental health conditions treated with ketamine, many patients experience a rapid response and may feel a change in mood after one or two treatments.

Treatments are coordinated with the patient’s current referring mental health provider.
